July 2nd, 2008 Posted in Gadget, mobile

The lucky star hasn’t been around Palm yet. As a famous smartphone company, the release of Treo 800W recently has been compared to other smartphones with the same level. That is the consequence Palm has to accept, because their new Treo was launched at the same time with the fenomenal, iPhone.

The main thing that makes Treo 800w loose the battle against iPhone is that when it launched the first time only in United States, while Apple has prepared iPhone to be launched ana available for the first time in 21 countries.

The other reason is because Treo 800w has not yet adopted 3G network, while iPhone is announced as a 3G GSM smartphone. Furthermore, Treo 800w touch screen is said to be not as good as Samsung’s or HTC’s touch screen, evenmore iPhone.

However, it doesn’t mean that Palm Treo 800w has no potential buyers. Fanatic fans and those who are love to use big and convenient Qwerty keyboard are Palm’s main targets. For this new smartphone, Palm positioned it for business people. In this level, Treo 800w will compete with BlackBerry made by Research In Motion (RIM), eventhough BlackBerry has adopted 3G network aswell.

With some of it lacks, Treo 800w markets by Sprint Nextel will still be sold with relatively expensive price, US$ 250, and still the customer has to join with Nextel service for 2 years. As comparison, AT&T Inc sells iPhone 3G with 8Gb memory for US$ 199 in United States. iPhone 3G users also has to subscribe to AT&T for two years. CL King & Associates analyst, Lawrence Harris said, “Treo 800w is one of the most expensive smartphone. Because, smartphone market is experiencing a big drop in their price.”

June last year, Palm released their notebook, Foleo, which were also being taunted by analysts. Foleo, is a mini notebook with 10 inches display, designed as PDA companion that can be used for email and processing documents. Foleo was sold with price around US$ 600, which equal with regular notebook todays.
