Protecting Children with Mental Disorders

June 30th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized
by Marion Jones

Who are the predators? Predators are Cyber Stalkers, serial killers/rapists, rapists, paedophiles, women beaters, child abusers, thieves, and so on. Predators often have mental problems that prevent them from behaving properly in normal society. Children with mental disorders are often the prey of these predators, and sometimes children with mental disorders are the predators themselves. In fact, the distributor of one of the most dangerous viruses online came from an eighteen-year old from England.

Dangers mental illnesses: Not everyone with a mental disorder is a danger to society. Generally, predators with mental disorders are plagued with sociopathic, psychopathic and anti-social disorders, oppositional defiance, conduct control disorders, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorders (BPD), and psychosis. While there are a few other mental disorders that pose threats to our society, this is a list of the most common potential dangers that lurk on the streets and on the Internet.

How to save a child with mental disorders from dangers : Never treat your child as if he/she has a mental disorder. Treat your child as special, yet avoid treating the child as if he/she is mentally ill, since many mentally ill patients are extremely intelligent. Teach your child the same rules that other children have to live by and stick to the rules. Do not leave room for doubt when danger is present. Teach your child respect by showing respect yourself.

Children with dangerous mental illnesses will often want to watch pornography, violent images, content, et cetera. This makes it difficult as a parent to protect your child. However, it is important that you enforce the rules. Never put yourself in danger while enforcing these rules, since some children with dangerous problems may cause you harm.

If the child refuses to listen to you, bring in the police and make sure that they do their job to help you enforce the rules. You may have to pay court fees and go through all sorts of rigmarole, but I can promise you that it will benefit you in the end. As a mother who is raising two boys with dangerous mental illnesses, I can tell you it won’t be easy but it can be done.

Children with mental illnesses often have brilliant minds that can often get round any parental controls and will do so without you even knowing. Take more time than normal to monitor your child’s behaviour online. Teach your child that giving out personal information is dangerous and encourage them to request your permission when thinking about divulging name, phone number or other details online.

Allow your child to take some responsibility for himself and always encourage your child to join in family discussions that involve them. Furthermore, encourage the child to be safety conscious by telling them to report any misdemeanour committed against them.

One of the hardest things you’ll ever have to do while raising a child with mental health issues is encouraging him/her to stay away from violent images and pornography. It is next to impossible to keep them away from this rubbish. However, it can be done, if you set a good example for the child.

It is important that you leave the channels of communication open. Allow your child to express concerns, opinions, ideals, theories et cetera without demeaning the child. You will be astounded at the knowledge children with certain mental disorders have, if you will only listen.

The best advice I can offer you for dealing with children with major mental illnesses, such as psychopathy, is to seek help and stand firm. For additional child safety advice for children with mental disorders get advice from a qualified counsellor.

Note Well: Children learn what they see and hear.

Decorating Your Bathroom and Kitchen

June 29th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized
by Marion Jones

For the person who seems to have it all or for the person who is bored with their lifestyle, there are a few things that you can do to jazz-up your life. Perhaps the best way though is to start redecorating your house. Some of the first places you should look at redecorating are your bathroom and kitchen.

These are usually the most overlooked and yet, most used rooms in the entire house. Think about it, have you redecorated at least even one of these rooms within the past five years? The answer is probably “no”, in which case think back to the last time you even looked closely at your bathroom or kitchen other than to Spring clean them.

More than likely, if you noticed anything at all, you put the idea off until a future date when you could devote more time to decorating your bathroom or kitchen. At that time though, the place probably didn’t look as bad as it does now, after all, the years add up and even though you’ve been keeping it spotlessly clean you can’t stop the slow progress of time.

The chances are that if you were to take a closer look now, you’ll find that the curtains are looking a bit shabby and ragged around the edges, as are the bathroom rugs. And let’s not even talk about the soap dish. It is quite true that they don’t make them like they used to, and with very good reason too!

So, you should do yourself a favour and throw out all that unused clutter in the bathroom and get yourself some new stuff - you will be astonished at what lovely things you can find these days. Besides, you’ve probably been eyeing that lovely new bathroom set you noticed in the mall for some time, so at the very least now you will have a good reason to go out and splash out on yourself.

And while you’re at it, don’t forget to buy that nice new spice rack you saw last week for the kitchen and a few rugs that can be used in either room. They should be resilient to such commonplace accidents as water, soap, oil grease, fat and all the other things that somehow seem to become stuck to carpets.

However, if you’re looking for some new ideas on decorating your bathroom or your kitchen, there are a number of resources for you to get your inspiration from. The best I’ve found are the catalogues you can browse through to your heart’s content.

With all these options, you can even swap something that is a bit cheaper for the things you want in the catalogues. This is the easiest method to get your decorating projects started and to keep yourself pleasantly busy for some while and to transform your tired old bathroom and kitchen into brand new, glitzy areas.

Losing Weight Fast

June 28th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

Apart from physical appearance, weight affects a person in various ways. This could be the overall quality of life, self-esteem, depression, health risks, and physical incapabilities. There are a lot of advantages to losing weight, which is why a lot of people are searching for a weight loss technique that will trim down those excess kilos and get a beautiful, jaw-dropping physique.

The first thing that an over-weight individual should do is seek a doctor to recommend the best weight loss plan. This will be done after a full physical examination, which leads to the determination of a proper weight loss technique. To lose excess pounds fast and effectively, four aspects of your life has to be changed: what to eat, how to eat, behavior and activity level.

Here are a few quick recommendations that can affect an over-weight persons’s whole life:

1: Quick weight loss consists of a multi-faceted technique that is made up of mindset, exercise, and, in some cases, diet supplements. Begin by following a diet plan that can be easily incorporated into your lifestyle. Start an exercise regimen that requires at least fifteen minutes a day brisk walking, running, swimming or dancing.

2: Set realistic targets. The ability to focus and have a proper mindset enables a person on a diet to rapidly lose those extra pounds. With discipline and a proper mind set, a dieter will never be discouraged and lose focus.

3: Listen to your body. Every person’s body behaves in a different way to the various fast weight loss plans. Swap one regimen for another to assess the body’s reaction. The exercise regimen must be suited to one’s body, because some are not able to exercise as rigorously as others. If walking is all that you can do, then walk, since this is one of the best exercises. Don’t forget that muscles burn calories, so try to put on a little more muscle - it looks sexy too.

4: Eat more fibre since it makes a person feel full sooner and stays in the stomach longer, slowing down the rate at which you will want to eat again. For instance whole grain bread will remain in the system longer and stave off hunger longer than white bread, which converts to sugars faster. giving you a quick sugar spike, which soon passes, leaving you hungry again.

5: Stay away from fried food especially deep-fried, as it contains a large amount of fat. However, although fish and chicken are considered to be far leaner than beef, these white meats can contain even more fat than beef if it is fried. It is recommended that those on a strict diet choose grilled food, as it does not contain much fat after the food has been prepared.

6: Take in plenty of fluid. You should drink at least six to eight glasses of water a day to keep the body ‘flushing’ and since weight loss is dependent on how well the body gets rid of bodily waste, the body must stay properly hydrated.

So, all in all, discipline and consistent application is still the way to quick weight loss. Light dieting, workout, and the right amount of nutritional supplements performed in regularly everyday will result in a faster weight loss than having a huge, but short-lived campaign that is followed by a return to the bad old ways, since this only leads to adding more weight than before the diet was started.

Home Schooling and the Study of History

June 27th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized
by Marion Jones

Do you consider that spending time in traditional classrooms is not worth it? For many people, that is true. For example, a test is due and the students are told to memorize a lot of dates and names. However, after taking the exam, they will definitely forget 90% of those dates and names. That’s what most students do every time they have tests. If you are one of these people, you will find traditional history lessons boring, so home schooling, which focuses more on the history of the world will surely catch your fancy.

Just simple memorization is not enough to realize the importance of historical, famous people and important events. Through home schooling in history, you can learn about the different cultures of the past in a unique, but interesting way - that is your own way! Through the study of history, you will also realize the current situation of the world.

If you think that home schooling is the most effective option for your child’s education, you must also be prepared to take on some responsibilities. Since there will be no teacher physically present, you will have to oversee your child’s learning progress yourself.

Let’s say your child supports a particular sport. You could combine history and home schooling by simply putting a map on the wall of your child’s bedroom and mark the location of his favourite sports team. Make sure that you track all the team’s games, scores, activities and schedules. Then, you could go back to history lessons by reading biographies of the different athletes, who had been famous in the particular sport that your child enjoys. Apart from that, you can also look into the history of that particular sport and discover where it originated, its inventor, and the other things happening in that particular time in history.

For example, if your child likes baseball, you could teach your child about the history baseball, government hearings on the use of drugs and other favourite sports during that period of time. But remember that you can adapt this concept to any interest such as dancing, cars or any invention. You can also have conversations with your child about current events or read interesting historical documents and other books. Apart from that, you can also watch documentaries together with the rest of the family. There are various resources that you can use in home schooling, such as TV, maps, newspapers, books, a globe, an atlas, and encyclopedias. Due of the exciting adventures that you and your child will read about and see on film, he/she will find it easier to remember the names and dates of the history lessons. After all, learning is best when it is done in a fun way.

These ways are advisable if the child is still young, however when your child is older, you must choose a home schooling program that is suited for his/her particular age group. The programs are pitched at the elementary, high school, and even college levels. You just have to search online for these various programs. One good thing about these programs is that you can adapt them to fit the interests of your child. However, you must see to it that all the modules are learned by your child.

Once you and your child decide to go for home schooling, you must be prepared for some changes to take place in your life. The learning environment will now be your home not a school and through the various resources that you can use including the computer and Internet.

Myths about Hybrid Cars

June 26th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized
by Colin Jones

If you are considering a hybrid vehicle, you may be hearing quite a bit of “talk”. Some people think the hybrid car is the best thing on the market. Some people say it will just pass. Yet other people again say they think they can save a lot of money, but you’re not sure it’s really worth it. What is the truth, and how do you separate fact from fiction with all of the stuff that is being thrown at you? Below, you can read and consider the common hybrid vehicle myths.

Hybrid cars are the same as electric cars: This is not true because hybrid cars are fuel-powered most of the time. But they have what are called ‘battery assists’. The assist is powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery pack that is rechargeable.

You are guaranteed to economize with a hybrid car: If you are doing town driving, you may economize on fuel and you may not. The same goes for long-distance driving. There are just too many different factors involved. It has been said that if everyone bought hybrid vehicles, the fuel consumption would drop by just 10%. That’s not a very big decline, is it?

A hybrid cars battery can run out: A hybrid car’s battery should not run flat while you are actually driving it. The engine of a hybrid car does not idle when stopped (at a red light for example). What does it do instead then? It recharges its battery. So there’s no need to worry about a hybrid car stopping on that score.

The hybrid car’s rechargeable battery only lasts for two years: A hybrid car certainly would not be worth purchasing if this was true. A hybrid vehicle’s rechargeable batteries usually come with an 8-year warranty.

If I run out of fuel, I can keep driving on the hybrid car battery: Bear in mind, a hybrid car’s battery is an assist. That means that hybrid car’s still run on fuel. After you run out of gas, the battery may keep the car running for a little while. However, the car will stop running very soon.

Hybrid vehicles will soon put normal car dealers out of business: I’m sure that this won’t take place very soon. The reason for the delay has to do with the how much hybrids cost. Many people just can’t afford one. Also, people just aren’t sure whether they will really save money on a hybrid car. Therefore, they are slow to join the rush of people who want to own a hybrid car.

Hybrid cars will only save you about $88 a year: I did hear something on the news about this one day, but it may not be true. If there’s something you really want though, and there’s a lot of smoke surrounding it, you simply have to start digging and do some of your own research. There are many different models of hybrid car, and many different manufacturers make them. This means that there may be many more variables involved than the ones discussed here. A hybrid car may help you, and it may not, but the final decision is all yours.

So, just don’t worry too much about what other people say. They probably have only heard other people passing on rumours. Do your own due diligence and think it out for yourself. Try the Internet to get your information. The manufacturer’s literature is also rather useful, if you stick to reading the facts and skim over the hype. Check that whatever the literature claims is also in the warranty.

by Marion Jones

Fashion seems to dictate everything nowadays days. From what you wear to what you call your dog, everything you do is decreed by the need to be cool. Cute dog names are hard to come by and even harder to choose. This is because no sooner is something in fashion, than it is out again.

Who would want to choose a cute dog name that may not be fashionable tomorrow? People usually play it safe as a result, hence why the same names have been so popular for so long. To try and break that cycle, five cute dog names are listed below with our reasons why you should choose one of them for your dog.

Phoenix: What could be cuter than a bird that goes up in flames and then rises from the ashes? Phoenix is one of the cool dog names that will never go out of fashion because it is rooted in mythology. It has a timeless quality which has surprisingly failed to boost its popularity.

Star: Star is one of the cute dog names because it has so many meanings that you can have a hard time finding out where to begin. A star in the sky is a phenomenon and a star can refer to someone that excels in a particular field. It is a high form of praise and thus is definitely a cute dog name.

Lady: Lady is one of the most popular dog names but it is also one of the cool dog names because of the Disney cartoon film, Lady and the Tramp, which was a huge hit. This made the name popular but also gave it some credibility. In this case popularity is second to coolness.

Elvis: The coolest of cute dog names. Elvis Presley was undoubtedly cool and remains cool today even after his death. It is infinitely cool to name your dog after such a tremendous icon who never goes out of fashion himself.

Shadow: There is a dark and ethereal quality about Shadow that makes it a cool dog name. It would be best used on a large breed of dog however, because it wouldn’t have the same strong effect with a small breed.

Whatever cool dog names you consider for your pooch, it is a certain method of giving your dog an identity of its own and your dog memorable to others.

While having a fantastic looking garden is important you will need to think about ways of allowing the beauty of your garden to shine through in various types of weather situations. Some people also like to have the option of having their garden illuminated in the night. For these many people, looking at various landscape lighting options will permit you the opportunity of having your garden looking just the way you want it, no matter what the natural lighting conditions are.

In order to provide the right landscape lighting conditions, you will be able to choose from a wide variety of lighting fittings. These fixtures can be in the form of lamps, lanterns, spotlights, halogen lights and even solar-powered lights. The price of these lighting fixtures differs for each style of light.

If you are thinking of using landscape lighting you will need to choose where to put the lighting in order to get the best lighting effects. You may also want to think about which lights will shower your garden with an all over lighting. You can look in gardening magazines to obtain an idea of the various ways that landscape lighting fittings can be used.

While it may possible to get ideas for placing landscape lighting in your garden from landscape and gardening magazines, there is another way as well. For this other method, you have to look at your garden in the daytime and in the night time. In the morning you will need to look what spots in your garden could be improved by the use of landscape lighting. Then, when night falls, you look out at your garden again and see what areas would benefit from the use of lighting.

Then, the morning after this nocturnal exercise, you should go out into the garden and mark out roughly where you think there is a requirement for lighting. Once you have inspected this area properly, try imagining what kind of lights will be useful. You can then go to the garden store to look for these lights, once you have decided on the kind of landscape lighting.

After you have bought your perfect lights and you have read the instructions on setting them up you will have to start fixing the landscape lighting in a manner that will make sure that your garden looks beautiful. You ought to try subtle and strong lighting in order to decide on the best for your garden; a dimmer can help with these tests.

After you have finished your trials and installed the final version, you will see what a difference having the right landscape lighting can make to your garden. From now on, when night falls you will still be able to appreciate just how beautiful garden is.

Office Decorating

June 24th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized
by Gail Jones

It’s been at least a year now since you came to your new work place and officially took over your new office. At first, you were busy decorating your new home and learning a new job, but now that you’re settled in you start noticing again the same things that you noticed when you first arrived.

The walls are a boring, drab colour and looking decidedly depressing, the sun streaming in through the heavy duty blinds is barely enough to light a mouse hole and the furniture is just about as grotty and plain as it can get. You figure that an acceptable amount of time has passed for you to start an office decorating project.

Naturally, before you commence it’s always a good idea to make certain that the powers that be don’t have any objections to your stylish redecorating plans. And remember that it is only an office and so you should treat your plans to redecorate as such.

Emulsioning the walls a bright red colour possibly might not work. However, you could brighten things up a bit by repainting the walls a bright and airy colour that won’t upset anyone, least of all you. Then you could always take down those old blinds that have been hanging there since the early 1980’s and replace them with something more pleasing and functional.

On the other hand, if the whole of the office is done up in the same style with the same blinds hanging on each window, your stylish changes might not go down too well with your co-workers. So, think twice before making drastic changes that alter the whole style and dynamic of the entire office.

There are, however, easier ways you can carry out your office decorating project without too much hassle on your part and which doesn’t necessarily need to be thought over too much. You can brighten up any room by placing a pot or two of flowering plants here and there around your office.

But, if you’re at all like me and you don’t have green fingers or if your presence is death to any plants near you, then maybe you shouldn’t bother with plants. You could however bring in some bright prints and hang them up on your walls. Or perhaps you have children and they have painted some lovely pictures for you.

Kids’ paintings work well and will show your co-workers a different aspect of your character. But, don’t get stressed out over anything though - you really don’t need a simple decorating job to add to the rest of your worries - an office decorating project should be fun and stress-free.

Remember, your office decorating project need not mean your turning the whole office, or yourself, on its head. It should be something that you can live with on a daily basis.

After all, you’re at your office most of the day, so it should be a place where you can be just as relaxed as you are in your own home.
